Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a rare treatment modality for hemorrhagic cystitis (HC) following BK virus reactivation in the immunosuppressed population. Clinicians need to be aware of the etiology, preventive measures, complications, and various management techniques in HC while treating patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation. This study details the pathologic progression of HC in a patient with acute lymphoblastic leukemia harboring BK virus after cytotoxic induction chemotherapy and haploidentical marrow transplantation. A search of PubMed for literature published from 1973-2018 was conducted using keywords.
Abstract: A 17-year-old female developed invasive rhinocerebral mucormycosis during intensive re-induction chemotherapy for relapsed pre-B acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Due to the high case fatality rate for invasive mucormycosis in profoundly immunosuppressed...
Abstract: Phenformin's recently demonstrated efficacy in melanoma and Gleevec's demonstrated anti-proliferative action in chronic myeloid leukemia may lie within these drugs' significant pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and structural homologies, which are reviewed...
Abstract: Rhino-orbital-cerebral mucormycosis (ROCM) is a rare fulminant opportunistic fungal infection that despite relevant treatment has high mortality. We present a case of a 3-year-old girl with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and ROCM, who was treated successfully...
Abstract: Reactive astrogliosis has occurred after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) can act as a modulator for glial gene expression. Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is a critical regulator of reactive...
Abstract: A 55-year-old man with several comorbidities including idiopathic interstitial pneumonia under long-term corticosteroid therapy, longstanding myocardial infarction, chronic heart failure, paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, gastro-esophageal reflux disease,...
Abstract: Invasive sino-orbital fungal infections are life-threatening complications of immunonosupression that are difficult to treat. Currently there are no standard treatment guidelines. The most widely accepted therapy includes parenteral anti-fungal therapy and...
Abstract: Rhinocerebral mucormycosis (RM) is a rare, potentially lethal fungal infection. Traditional teaching encourages aggressive surgical resection until viable bleeding tissue is encountered, often leading to orbital exenteration, skull base resection, and...

Abstract: Background. Nontraumatic cerebral air embolism cases are rare. We report a case of an air embolism resulting in cerebral infarction related to angioinvasive cavitary aspergillosis. To our knowledge, there have been no previous reports associating these two...
