Brain and Central Nervous System Tumors

Clinical Trial – Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Treating Patients With Radiation Necrosis of the Brain

RATIONALE: Hyperbaric oxygen may increase blood flow and decrease swelling in areas of the
brain damaged by radiation therapy. Giving hyperbaric oxygen therapy together with
dexamethasone may be an effective treatment for radiation necrosis of the brain.

PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying how well hyperbaric oxygen therapy works
in treating patients with radiation necrosis of the brain.

Clinical Trial – Radiation Therapy Plus Hyperbaric Oxygen in Treating Patients With Newly Diagnosed Glioblastoma Multiforme

RATIONALE: Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. Hyperbaric oxygen
may increase the effectiveness of radiation therapy. Combining hyperbaric oxygen with
radiation therapy may be an effective treatment for glioblastoma multiforme.

PURPOSE: Phase I/II trial to study the effectiveness of combining radiation therapy with
hyperbaric oxygen in treating patients who have newly diagnosed glioblastoma multiforme.
