In this Research Rundown we focus on Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for treatment of Idiopathic Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss.

Highlights:

  • One of the things we know about sudden hearing loss is that the FDA recognized this as a cleared indication that clearly showed Hyperbaric Oxygen was very effective at returning a substantial amount of a person’s hearing if they have sudden hearing loss.
  • The study specifically addresses the time sensitivity for receiving Hyperbaric Oxygen after having sudden hearing loss.
    • It’s textbook that for acute situations, sooner is better and it’s shown here in this study.
    • One interesting fact with sudden hearing loss is that five sessions would be enough to help restore hearing if the condition is treated early enough.  But, essentially after that there isn’t a substantial increase in that return of hearing loss.
    • Receiving treatment within 12 days provides the patient with a 6.484x times greater return of hearing.
  • This is a very well done study on 46 patients with clear conclusions. We highly recommend this study.
